I made the prediction at Barry's yesterday, and while it wasn't exactly going out on a limb, it looks like Durham's reservoirs are finally topped off:
Lake Elevations
Lake Michie Elevation: 341.00 feet, mean sea level.
Lake Michie is full at 341.00 feet, mean sea level.Little River Reservoir Elevation: 355.00 feet, msl.
Little River Reservoir is full at 355.00 feet, msl.
Matt Dees at the N&O notes the same thing, and hints that we may finally be ready to back off of water restrictions.
On the one hand, despite the soggy weekend, we're not out of pretty bad drought conditions. The historic low flows in the Flat and Little Rivers before this heavy rain testify to the fact that the groundwater and the underground aquifers are simply a long ways from being fully recharged yet. But when you're spilling water over the dam, it would seem to make some sense to take a step back, not all the way to baseline, non-drought conservation measures, but to at least let people water their gardens twice a week. I mean, we're all happy to chip in when we're in a pinch, but loosen up the taps just a little at least. [where: 27701]
yeah, i hear we're going back to Stage III in the not too distant future.
we were down to 5 units on our last bill, although it was only a 50 day cycle. That put us at 12 units over the past 4 months, or about 75 gallons/day for 2.75 people (my daughter moved up to the mountains in March.)
Even if we watered every Saturday for 45 minutes or an hour, we'd only add 2 units per billing cycle to our consumption. Meanwhile, we were talking at Kevin's place about folks using 25 - 30 units per month.
We really need tiered water rates, with very high prices for those who are not doing their share.

I managed 2 units last billing cycle, which for me is one unit per person per month, or on the order of 25 gallons per day. Having a front-loading washing machine I'm sure helps a lot.

~LieStoppers~
Why have they closed their boards? Why call themselves LieStoppers if they practice censorship to prevent outing TRUTHS?!
Another example of media gone yellow. Quash "Freedom Of Speech" but pornography and sensationalism is the motive to attract readers and attention.
No better than what Nifong, corrupt politicians, law enforcement, and Durham did to the LAX team. I find it hypocritical to send people to the "corn field" for speaking up and about injustices, crimes against humanity, civil and basic human rights, and many other true pathetic examples of the evils of citizens and government. A site I once had respect for and joined to support the team, as my brother Allen Jackson Croft Jr was found dead under a train trestle May 11, 2005, and has YET to be INVESTIGATED, much less prosecuted! My family is not alone with unanswered questions about our loved ones murders, and have waited needlessly far too long! Lies truly do kill, and until we are told facts and truths suffer beyond comprehension. Wherein lies our rights to live under any moral and social code? What has become of our country and world?
